Common useNimotop is a nimodipine. It can prevent or eliminate spasm of vessels caused by various drugs such as serotonin or histamine. Due to its the high lipophility penetrates the blood-brain barrier (BBB). Nimotop improves stability and functional capacity of neurons. The medication also affects positively learning ability and memory by blocking of Ca2+-channels in certain brain areas, such as the hippocampus and cerebral cortex.
Dosage and direction
Take the medication orally exactly as prescribed to you. Do not exceed the recommended dose. Take on an empty stomach with a full glass of water one hour before or two hours after a meal. To get the most benefit of the drug take it regularly.
Precautions
Cautiousness should be exercised in individuals with severe bradycardia, liver failure, mild or moderate hypotension, myocardial infarction associated with the failure of left ventricular, intracranial hypertension, generalized edema of the brain tissue. Avoid drinking of grapefruit juice while you ar eon Nimptop. When Nimptop is used with rifampicin effectiveness of the former can be reduced. Simultaneous adminitration of nimodipine with cimetidine or valproic acid may lead to increased concentrations of nimodipine in blood serum. Beta-blockers used together with Nimptop may cause considerable drop in blood pressure. Procainamide, quinidine used together with Nimptop may significantly increase the risk of elongation of the QT interval.
Contraindications
The medication should not be used in patients with hypersensitivity to the medication, severe hypotension, pregnant and breastfeeding women.
Possible side effect
In case of severe signs of allergy seek immediate medical care: skin rash, difficulty breathing, facial swelling, hives. Inform your doctor as soon as possible also if you experience fainting or severe dizziness, unusually fast or slow heartbeats, easy bruising or bleeding, unusual weakness, swelling in your legs or ankles.
Drug interaction
Inform your doctor about all prescribed, over-the-counter medications, herbal products and food supplements you use. Combined use of nimodipine and Fluoxetine leads to increased concentrations of nimodipine in blood serum. Prolonged use of nimodipine with Nortriptyline results in a slight increase in serum levels of nimodipine. If phenobarbital, phenytoin or carbamazepine were used for a long time before nimodipine they may reduces its bioavailability.
Missed dose
If you forgot to take your dose in time, please do it as soon as you remember. But do not take if it is too late or almost time for your next dose.
Overdose
Symptoms of overdose which may need you to apply immediately for professional medical attention are: chest pain, dizziness, fainting, weakness, shortness of breath, an unusually fast or slow heartbeat, confusion, slurred speech, or coma.
Storage
Store in a dry tight container away from sunlight at room temperature between 15-30 C (59-86 F) away from children and pets.
